First example isn't really a gotcha, is it? Yes, "induced demand" applies to public transit, but public transit has much greater capacity (fits more people in a very finite amount of urban space) than highways and personal vehicles -- therefore the supply-and-demand timeline is much longer, which is a good thing. Not perfect, but more sustainable than the alternative.
